Ash and enamel spray paint
72"x 60"x 1'
2008

I collected ash from my fireplace and sifted out pieces of wood and debris so that the ash has a flour like consistency. I then pour the ash onto the floor roughly the size of a dining table tablecloth. A large piece of cardboard is placed on top to flatten the ash thus making it firmer and less powdery. A lace table cloth is placed over the piece and a grey enamel paint is sprayed over the cloth and ash. I then carefully removed the table cloth to reveal a negative print of the design made from the enamel paint.
After the piece is exhibited and the show ends the work is swept up and recycled. A new version will be recreated with a different tablecloth design when needed to exhibit again.
